Kensington Palace: The official residence of the Royal Family, the King’s and Queen’s State Apartments are open to visitors, including the astonishing Cupola Room. Visit the King's Gallery, pretty much unchanged since it was decorated for King George I in 1727.

The Banqueting House: The surviving part of the Palace of Whitehall, Europe’s largest palace before it was gutted by a fire. Charles I was executed at a scaffold in front of this elegant Renaissance-style building.
