Discover Wales: 5 Days Tour of Wales with Accommodation from London

Our Welsh journey begins with us travelling towards the gorgeous Cotswolds, crossing some of the prettiest historic villages and rolling hills all nestled amidst an area of outstanding natural beauty. As we drive through this stunning region, regale yourself with some incredible views and fascinating local stories; and yes, of course, tons of memorable pictures!

Our major stop of the day is Hay-on-Wye, located on the northern side of Brecon Beacons National Park. Nicknamed “the town of books”, the quaint market town is a haven for bibliophiles and dotted with innumerable boutique bookstores. We will continue from here through the picturesque Elan Valley and up the stellar landscape of the Cambrian Mountains, finally arriving at the seaside town of Aberystwyth where we will be staying for the next couple of days.

Our second day is shrouded in the splendour of the mountains, beginning with us driving through the enormous Snowdonia National Park, a sweeping landscape whose beauty can hardly be captured in words. Built around Wales’ highest peak, Snowdon, the area is a visual delicacy of undulated plains, overwhelming greenery and dramatic landscapes. Our first stop of the day is charming little village of Beddgelert, renowned for the folklore of ‘the faithful hound’ Gelert and his grave.

From Beddgelert, we will move on to the towering Harlech Castle built by Edward I while invading Wales in the late 13th century. The views from the castle, spawning from Snowdonia to the Irish Sea, is breathtaking while the castle itself is stupendous specimen of “late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe” as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Post enjoying a brilliant day out, we will head back to Aberystwyth around late afternoon.

From the elegance of the mountains we move to the brilliance of the seaside on our third day. We ride around the coast of the largest Welsh bay, Cardigan Bay, and through the old town of Aberaeron to arrive at the alluring seaside town of New Quay. From stunning beaches to lovely harbours to dazzling whitewashed houses and of course, literary connections, New Quay is an enchanting little place which also happened to the home of the Modern poet Dylan Thomas for a while. The best part? Keep your eyes on the water and you might just spot some adorable dolphins and whales!

We take a short break from the coastal charisma to travel inward and visit the magnificent ruins of the Dinefwr Castle, dating back to the late 12th century and offering impressive views of the Towy Valley. We will then move back to the south coast of Wales to the town of Laugharne, home to Dylan Thomas in his last few years. This is where he composed his iconic radio drama Under Milk Wood, which was commissioned by the BBC. Having trailed Thomas’ life and savoured the captivating views, we will drive to the enamouring little town of Tenby where we will be staying for the next two days.

Trailing the extreme south-west coast, our fourth day is spent feasting our eyes on some insane coastal views. We move out to explore some of Britain’s most spectacular coastlines, as we travel around the enthralling Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Besides the incredible views, the region also acts as a great lesson in history, being the birthplace of both Twdyr Dynasty as well as the patron saint of Wales, St. David.

The smallest city in Britain, St. Davids, is also on our itinerary as we arrive here for lunch as well as a dose of exploration. The city is the final resting place of St. David and home to the pristine Whitesands Bay as well the fascinating ruins of the St Davids Bishops Palace. Our final stop for the day is the county town of Pembroke, awaiting us with their remarkable town walls - an exemplary specimen of medieval city defenses. The antique remnants of the Pembroke Castle is a must-see, a Norman style castle known for having some of thickest walls, and we can all spend some time soaking up all the nostalgia and listening to some fantastic tales of a long lost past before we return to Tenby.

Our final day is spent exploring some ace locations on our return journey to London. Riding past some of the biggest industrial cities in Wales, we will stop for a tour of the National Museum of History at St Fagans. An imposing open-air museum, it gets you up close as personal with Welsh people with a meticulous documentation of their cultures, traditions, lifestyles and histories.

Driving across the panoramic Severn Bridge, our final stop for the day is the charming civil parish of Castle Combe - your glimpse of the tranquil Cotswolds. Retro takes a whole new meaning here as you saunter amongst the 16th ironstone cottages and almost feel transported back in time. It’s a surreal experience and the perfect note to end a trip, especially one which has treated you to multiple shots of the past!
