Pay a tribute to the victims of the Holocaust with a visit to Terezín, a former military fortress located about 40 miles north of Prague. It later became the Theresienstadt concentration camp during World War II.

Originally a military fortress built in the 18th century by Emperor Josef II, Terezin is inextricably linked to the history of second world war. The town of Terezin (Big Fortress) served as a collection camp for Jews from all over Europe and was misused for Nazi propaganda purposes during the visit by the Red Cross in 1944.

The less known Small Fortress was a cruel prison of the Reich’s secret police - the Gestapo. Terezín is divided into two parts: the big and small fortresses. The first was used as a Jewish ghetto where over 150,000 Jews lived, and the second was a concentration camp.
